About Gainesville

The University of Florida is located in Gainesville, FL. Gainesville is located in the center of the state making it the ideal location to get just about anywhere in the state in a matter of a few hours. For example, Orlando and all of its attractions, is only two hours away. There is a beach in either direction about an hour to an hour and a half away. Florida is also fortunate to have many beautiful natural springs with a water temperature of 72 degrees year round - many of which are in the surrounding area.

The local bus system (RTS) provides students with free transportation making the campus quite accessible without a vehicle if necessary. An individual can get from just about anywhere in Gainesville in less than an hour, usually thirty minutes or less. Gainesville is also a bicycle friendly town. Motorists adhere to the laws regarding bicycles on the road. Mopeds and scooters are also quite prevalent on and off campus. Many students use these modes of transportation to get to and from campus.

The average temperature in Jaunary is 65F while the average in June is 89F for Gainesville. For those students seeking snow, you won't find it here! There are year round activities both on and off the campus from golf to snorkeling, to hiking on nature trails to shopping.
