About UF

The University of Florida (UF) is a major research university, a member of the prestigious American Association of Universities (the only Public University in the S.E. USA with a College of Engineering elected to this Association), and the De-facto "Flagship" university in Florida. UF, with about 43,000 students, and offers more programs than any university in the USA except the University of Minnesota and Ohio State University. UF is in the top 10 in the USA in the number of National Merit Scholars and 4th among USA universities in the number of patents held. Probably the most famous product developed by UF researchers is GATORADE --- developed to aid our famous (and now National Champs) Football GATORS who play in THE SWAMP. Also, Gainesville, Florida was named by Money Magazine in 1995 as the Number 1 City in the USA.

There are many activities available for students both on and off campus from sports and supporting the GATORS, to theater and the arts, to local events sponsored by the city. To find out more about the campus activities, please visit http://www.union.ufl.edu/ for a listing of current activities. The university is fortunate to have many recreational areas such as Lake Wauberg and the university golf course. The Student Activities Office also sponsors out-of-town trips and all students are permitted to participate.

Our students live both on and off-campus. Housing is quite affordable and the community as a whole welcomes our UF students. Those who chose to live on- campus can request housing directly through the Housing application. Those who chose to live off-campus, apartment complexes are plentiful along with agencies who will assist in the apartment hunting process. We recommend that you do a search on-line and review those agencies in order to select the one for you.
